House of the Dragon season 2 release date speculation

While HBO has ordered House of the Dragon season 2, the network hasn’t hinted at a potential release date.  We can look at various clues to make a guess about the House of the Dragon season 2 release date. The first season filmed from April 2021 to February 2022, then premiered in August. That’s actually a pretty short turnaround time, but postproduction may have been less arduous since most of the action in season 1 is confined to rooms within King’s Landing.  The Spanish newspaper Hoy (opens in new tab) reported that the show is returning to Cáceres, Spain to film season 2 in March to June 2023. Other filming locations are likely to include Cornwall, England, and Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios in Watford.  Even if principal photography takes the same 10 months or so, season 2 will likely need a lot more special effects due to more battles (both regular ones and those involving dragons).  Based on that, we estimate that House of the Dragon season 2 will arrive in mid-to-late 2024 at the earliest.
